The Princess Margaret Welcome Home Sweepstakes Oakville Showhome is beautiful!

Lynda Reeves and the House and Home design team impresses again. While running a few errands on Saturday I took detour to visit the Princess Margaret ‘Welcome Home’ Sweepstakes for Cancer Research Oakville Showhome, and I’m so glad I did. Oh, let the dreaming begin…  but first my take on the design elements.

It’s as though the design team took a ‘less is more’ approach yet they’ve kept it feeling casual and cozy vs. modern and minimal. Simply decorated with accents of white and natural woods, settled in a colour palette of mostly neutrals, made this home feel almost ‘retreat’ like. There was also a wave of 'country' throughout but nothing overwhelming which is why perhaps it felt so warm and welcoming. All in all, it's beautiful. Here's just a peek of what I'm talking about...

entry console
I think a mirror would work better here

great room (no TV)
Could be a casual living room since there wasn't one, only a den across the entry console

The kitchen has lots of interesting details. The layout is puzzling though, mainly because the table was in the center of the room - where you might think a kitchen island would be - so it seemed a tight fit. The walls and cabinetry were painted the same colour, different but nice and the beatboard detail was on the walls and the ceiling. Also, it was different to see the kitchen as a room with doors vs. opening to another room. For us, it would be nice to close the kitchen doors at night to reduce the 'I want a snack' routine we're in these days!

master bedroom
Casual yet pretty... love it!

 bedroom 2
So girly and pretty... the rug was so soft & warm, I want one.

kids bedroom

basement - bedroom, games room, sauna and laundry

There are more beautiful spaces in this home so if you're in the area pop in and take at a look - perhaps buy a ticket or two. You can order tickets online too, just go here.

Could you see yourself curling up with a good book infront of the stone fireplace? Or cooking up a delicious meal in the chef’s kitchen? Or how about settling in for a movie in the basement? Ahhh... and how about the charming Muskoka cottage, see it here.

I'm so jealous you did a tour! Even though I would have made some different choices, I could definitely see myself living here! Wouldn't it be incredible if you won?? I don't know what I would do - live there or sell it!

Hmmmmm.... other than the kids room, the home is really lacking colour. And it doesn't seem to be as warm & cozy as you would expect it to be with all the wood and the stone fireplaces.

Of course, that could just be from looking at the house in pictures -- it could have a totally different feel in real life.

I like the lantern light fixtures and the wood floor lamp in the master bedroom. And lovin' the grey in the kitchen and the awesome windows above the sink.
