Beach Artwork {Love}

Beach prints have been trending for several months now, but my obsession with them started last year. Since seeing Victoria Webster’s living room, featured in the January 2010 issue of Canadian House and Home, I’ve been coveting.

H & H Jan 2010

We traveled to Fiji for our honeymoon. The white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters are absolutely gorgeous and picture worthy, below are two of my favorites. I would love to get one of them enlarged and framed. I suspect B & I will smile each time when have a glimpse at it. Which do you like better?

Popping up on line, in magazines and most recently on last week’s Sarah 101…  they’re definitely on trend.elle decor

Aren’t they beautiful? Interested in buying beach artwork for your own home? My online searching lead me to Christian Chaize. I would love to own a piece of his artwork but the price tag just doesn’t fall within my shoestring budget approach to everything. With that, 20x200 sells editions of his print at a point price that even I could do… really, have a look for yourself here. I also found beach prints available at Art Interiors in Toronto. Hope these photo’s make you smile! Happy Weekend!

Sunburst Mirrors {Love}

I've seen my fair share of sunburst mirrors and just when I begin to think they might be losing popularity, they keep coming back. There’s just something about sunburst mirrors that I absolutely love, but it’s this one that I want for somewhere in my home. It might actually come in a close second to my love for venetian mirrors. Here’s a round up for you to enjoy -

Sarah 101 {Contemporary Living}

This week’s case study was an open concept entryway, living and dining room in an overall small space. Space planning, smaller scale furniture and storage were on the priority list for this long and narrow room.

While the reveal really showcased mid century modern style, the drapery, woven blinds, grass cloth wallpaper, brass pendant and upholstered banquette and chairs in the dining area brought in warmth and contemporary touches.Sonia's living room a E7

Our first house was 1600 square feet so I know first hand how challenging space planning and finding the right size furniture is for a small living space.

The layout and smaller scale furniture Sarah chose for this space was ideal. The two area rugs sewn together was a great idea to get the perfect size area rug at a lower price point and it really helped to define the living room from entryway and the dining area. The round tables kept the home owner’s two year old son in mind as did the storage cubes but the added bonus, the storage cubes double as extra seating or table when needed. Good thinking Sarah!

3 Take A Ways. To make a small living space appear larger, pull some of the furniture away from the walls. Scale down upholstery and opt for chairs as room dividers. When working with vintage pieces, chose fabrics that are well suited for the item. Repetition of pattern, an age old design technique; think one strong piece paired with other subtle touches scattered through the space.

High Gloss Painted Rooms

Sourcing photos for my Dramatically Dark post had me crossing paths with dark rooms painted in high gloss paint, so as a spin off, I give you inspiration for High Gloss Painted Rooms. While the preference seems to be dark colors over light, I did find a few light and cheery rooms to add to this round up of inspiration photos. All I have to say, could you be more bold? With the possibility of every wall imperfection highlighted, I will stay clear of high-gloss paint.

I might consider painting a door or piece of furniture in high gloss just to give it a whirl. How about you, would you consider doing high gloss somewhere in your home?

Given this post is devoted to high gloss, have you checked out the premiere issue of High Gloss on line magazine yet? Great issue!high gloss magazine

Sarah 101 {Boho Chic Girls Room}

Only Sarah can pull off that many fabrics in such tiny rooms and still have a cohesive look! This episode was almost two shows in one because it showcased two rooms for three girls.

There are so many things that can be admired here… like the use of tea towels from Anthropologie as the jumping off point for both rooms; the out of the box thinking for a DIY bed frame that stretched the width of the room in an effort to maximum space; the painted detail that was added under the shelving making it pretty when looking up from the bed; the animal decals made from wallpaper; the bunting made from left over fabric pieces and finally, the use of vintage finds sprayed for a personal touch and embellished with beautiful handles.

Workspace Inspiration & Giveaway Winner

On my list for this past weekend, source accessories for my workspace at the office. Yes, I’m returning to work full time and I want to make my workspace more reflective of my love for beautiful spaces. You could say I wear two hats, one as the marketing manager for a business consulting company and the other, as an interior decorator. Both hats blend creativity with value driven business principles and for that, I love them both.

I want to take my generic workspace from drab to fab by creating a more homey feel. I hope to accomplish this by adding a table lamp, artwork and some colorful accessories, all on a shoestring budget. Here are photos I’m using as inspiration…
