More budget friendly ideas...

Kuddos to Style at Home. Just picked up my June 2010 issue from the mailbox yesterday afternoon - again waited until after the kids were in bed to dive in - and thankgoodness I did. So many inspiring pages ~ here are some of my favorites...

- this idea...

... could be this -

...and this idea got me thinking, how about if I did a chair for each of my boys with thier own hands and feet prints on them! Hmm.

Sorry, it was a magazine week but I hope you enjoyed the sharing of ideas. I think this cold that I've been suffering from for the last week is finally exiting my body... thank goodness. While that's good, it seems B has a cold and Evan is getting a cold again or this time he could be his first tooth, I'm not sure yet. I guess we'll find out in the days to come.

Now that I'm feeling a little better perhaps I can get back to my guest room redesign... which is taking longer than I thought! Ah well, it's all good.

Ideas 22, 24, 48, 61, 92!

Picked up this magazine yesterday while I was at Walmart getting some mulch for the front garden.

After the kids were in bed, kitchen tidied up and my tea was steeping, I finally sat down to be visually inspired. Thank goodness I waited… this little magazine was so delightful… page after page of pretty pictures and neat ideas that anyone can do at home. It was a little expensive at $7.99 but what a great ‘get inspired’ magazine!

Here's a few pictures for you to enjoy...

and, finally, here's something on my wish list for our own backyard... ahhhhh, one day.

Luxury Farmhouse

I’ve heard of people having luxury cottages but luxury farmhouses??? Anyway, leave it to Sarah Richardson and her sidekick Tommy to be the first for a luxury farmhouse. B had a farm growing up and something tells me it doesn’t quiet compare to Sarah’s… although, my mother in law does have a knack for design and many of us are enjoying pieces from the farm in our homes today.

What a privilege it would be to have the ability to live out all your design loves – a little bit of glitzy glam, a little bit of cottage and finally, a little bit of country – in three different places!

While I haven’t caught each episode of the current Sarah’s house, as I usually do, she’s apparently, outdid herself again. Although one could only dream of the design budget she has, I’m so glad to see her using more colour, sourcing more vintage and being more thrifty this time around. I’m also so glad she hasn’t turned farmhouse country to ‘modern farmhouse’ which we’ve seen showcased in many magazines lately.

I've always wondered what the homes list for - furnished...hmmm. Looking forward to the rest of the show...

Still sourcing

While I was successful at crossing off the 1" thick foam and polyester batting from my list -that's about as far as I got with my list yesterday.

From there, I went to Invu Drapery to look for fabric options for the headboard and 2 occasional chairs that will be getting a redo (not by me). Unfortaunately, the visit proved to be unsucessful and I left empty handed for fabric samples but, of course, not without some pretty pictures for accessories.

I'm going to try and visit Designer Fabrics over the weekend... I suspect I'll have better luck for fabric and pricing there.

In the meantime, enjoy these from Invu Drapery. Happy Decorating!

How about this pair?

Don't know where to use them, here's what Sarah Richardson did with a similiar pair...

And, finally, a pair of already made accent pillows in Thomas Paul 'Robin' fabic.

My 1st 'real' DIY Project

Yes, you read it right - I will be taking on a DIY project. The project, an upholstered headboard; the skill level, 3; the cost I'm projecting will be about $140.00; the time factor, I have no clue. A little crazy, YES... but, apparently after reading a 'how to' tutorial over at Addicated to Decorating, I feel confident that I can do it.

I'm hoping to turn this...
into this...

I've pulled together my shopping list for this project and I hope to get out there today to cross some things off.

This should be interesting... wish me luck!

Lilac & Gray with a touch Green

We've been in our house for close to 5 years now and we never paid any attention to our guest bedroom. Perhaps it’s because there were so many other projects that took priority like; the kitchen, familyroom, basement, front yard landscape just to name a few. The room has been a storage room and a toy / playroom in lieu of having a finished basement. Well, I’m happy to share that the time has come – we’re taking on the guest bedroom!

Here’s a little background… the guest bedroom is a good size, sits over the garage, has a separate bathroom and walk in closet. Some friends ask why we haven’t given it to one of our boys well, the truth is, it’s too big compared to the other bedrooms and I think it’s unfair for one boy to get the BIG room. So with that in mind, we’re keeping it as a guest bedroom however, because of its size we’re intending to use as a casual sitting room – for lack of a better word. Sometimes after the boys have a bath (and it’s a little too early for bed) it’s nice to stay upstairs and play quietly or read together… keeping things upstairs keeps things calm and makes the transition to bed a breeze.

My colour inspiration for this room really comes from our old guest bathroom accessories which I would like to reuse because I still love the colour combination. However, after some fabric sourcing and magazine picture inspiration I’m adding in an accent colour of green.

(what a fluke the accent pillow was... popped into HomeSense one day, spotted it and bought it right away... came home and over the course of the day glanced at my magazine pictures again to realize it was the same one as in the picture! Style at Home | Nov 2009)

This project will take a little time to complete because I’m painting during Evan’s naptimes and depending on the night, B & I pick up after the kids go to bed. Long as it may be to finish… I’m happy we’ve got started.

Day Dreaming

There's something about this bedroom that's drawing me in... perhaps its a sense of casual calmness which is making me just want to lounge around and have a lazy weekend. That's not liking going to happen around my house but here's to day dreaming.

Oh, and if you love the artwork like I do, you can get it at Night Owl Creations on Etsy.

Have a great weekend!

Branching Out

I saw this story in the Canadian House & Home May 2010 issue and thought I have something like that of my very own.... hmm, who knew it could be magazine worthy or in this case blog worthy.

We were in need of more hooks in our mudroom and I had some extra tree branches from my outdoor winter display so here's what I came up with... taadaa - my very own branch out!

Can't stop thinking about...

For some reason this morning I can't stop thinking about this piece of furniture I spotted at a local consignment store last week. I liked it as soon as I saw it but this morning I pulled the complete picture together in my head. Here it is...

This is the dresser...

with this mirror over top...

with either of these options for an accent chair on either side...

and with any of these as accessories on top...

or this on top... with a hint of green somewhere else in the room.

What do you think? Ahhhh, I feel better now that I got the imagery out of my head - thanks everyone!!!

In the details...

I'm noticing there's a trend in the air - nailhead trim furniture. I'm loving when it's a part of chairs and upholstered bedframes. I think it's a nice little detail that can turn a piece from good to stunning. I was actually thinking about it for my dinning room chairs - when we get them of course.

Here's a few pieces I saw at HomeSense yesterday - looking for a spring table runner... which I didn't find.

... this brown dresser reminded me of this picture of Victoria Webster's house showcase in the Canadian House & Home January 2010 issue. Not sure I like it when it's incorporated into these type of pieces... hmmm.

And, here's a few inspirational pictures just for fun! From a variety of people and designers however, I pulled all the pictures from Decor Pad.

And, a couple of pictures from a couple of delightful blogs I follow...
