Hicks Pendant Light {Love it!}

The Hicks Pendant Light by Thomas O’Brien - a case of love at first site for me. There are four finishes to choose from. I’m drawn to polished nickel, but the bronze with antique brass is not far behind… all are beautiful. Funny how this pendant is statement making all on its own, just as it is when hung in a pair or grouping. Sadly, I don’t have a place for the Hicks pendant light in my home, so my crush continues to linger.

Gorgeous, right? Which finish is your favourite? Do you have a spot for these beauties in your home? Do tell, I would love to know.

Room Envy {Family Room}

Meredith Heron Room Envy

When I think adding colour to my mainly neutral interior decor, this photo captures it perfectly for me. It has the right balance of neutral to colour for me. The entire house is beautiful, with right amount of “decorated” feeling throughout, see the entire house tour here. Who’s magic is this you ask? It’s of the lovely Toronto interior designer Meredith Heron; so many of her rooms are in my ‘dream home’ file. Pop over here to see her entire design portfolio.

The Red Brick House

We live in a red brick house. While that lends itself to a traditional style, I am always on the look out for how I can add a touch of contemporary. A few years ago, we spent a good chuck of change on the front landscape blending natural stones with low maintenance greenery, such as; boxwoods, hydrangeas, hostas and others - we love how it softened the overall look. Today, many of our greens need trimming however, we’ll wait until the fall or early spring to tackle that project.

Our intensions are to replace the front door and garage door one day, but this past weekend we got to repainting them to give our curb appeal a little face lift. Here are some of the inspirational images that got my wheels turning.

Yes, we went black on the front door, and choose a shade of taupe for the garage door trying to blend it with the trim and make it disappear. I’ll share photos when we’re done. The paint we’re using is Behr Premium Plus Ultra, courtesy of The Home Depot.

Our Visit To Centreville

We went to Centreville on Friday. You’ve seen our summer list, so you know we were headed there at some point. It called for a beautiful day so B and I took the day off and enjoyed time with the boys. My parents, and their dog Toby, came along for the get-outside adventure too.

A trip on the ferry always makes for a good start to the day.

Our first stop? The train. Liam talked about riding the train the entire car ride downtown.

Next, lunch. We found the perfect spot by the water and enjoyed our sandwiches – everything seems more tasty when eating al fresco, no?

The boys enjoyed the company.

While Evan napped, Liam enjoyed the playground and water fountains.

Happy boy {again}…

Me sneaking in a photo while they’re enjoying a monster popsicle. Evan wasn’t so sure about me interrupting his popsicle experience. Monster popsicles, courtesy of Grandpa - thanks Grandpa!

The rest of the afternoon was filled with rides and more rides… so much fun!

We were all zonked by the end of the day, but it was worth it. The boys were great and we all enjoyed the family time.

Beautiful Backyards

Lately I find myself admiring beautiful backyards. Our backyard has yet to be made beautiful, mainly because we’re talking about putting in a pool in the coming years. Until then, it remains empty and ugly – and until then, I’ll keep admiring the beautiful backyards of others. Here’s a look at those that have caught my eye… enjoy!

Beautiful, right? If you have come across other beautiful backyards, feel free to share the link. Better yet, do you have a backyard retreat already? Tell me about – share a photo.

Blueberry Peach Crumble

While I haven’t made it to the farm to pick your own strawberries, I did get lucky with plump blueberries and gorgeous ripe peaches this past weekend. Seasonal fruit from local growers are starting to arrive in baskets here, and I confess, I go overboard. Although, is four pounds of blueberries and a small basket of peaches really overboard? Well, my boys thought so - until they enjoyed handfuls of fresh blueberries, blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream and this blueberry peach crumble. Sunday morning we enjoyed breakfast al fresco and this blueberry peach crumble was heavenly.

I needed to use the remaining oats mixture from the blueberry crumble of the night before, so I thought why not. I made them in individual ramekin's to keep the portion small. Two of my three boys, woke to the scent of brown sugar and cinnamon coming from the oven… it was nice treat, for all us. For the recipe I used go here (I received a small booklet in the mail). I did make a few modifications, such as; swapping the cherries and raspberries for peaches, reduced the brown sugar amount and replaced white sugar with stevia (a natural sugar substitute).

Baked anything lately? DO tell and share the recipe, perhaps I’ll give it a try. Also, Happy 4th to all my American friends… enjoy the day!
