Christie Antique Show

This past Saturday Staci, from Inspired by Life, and I went to the Christie Antique Show in Dundas, Ontario. Although I’ve known about the show for years I’ve never attended, so I was thrilled to be doing a first-ever in the great company of Staci. It took us a couple of hours to walk the grounds, here’s a few things we saw…

LOVE these door knobs, but that re-design project is well into the future so I passed them by.

I have this love affair with cake stands right now, but I resisted the urge and didn’t buy any.

I was on the hunt for things for my boys… here are some items I came across, of which I bought none.

We have the little red digger tipped on its side, I was surprised to see it listed for $35.00

Here’s what I came home with… an ‘e’ for Evan.

and, for my wanna-be train driver Liam… I’m thinking it can hang in the boys playroom. Crazy, I know.

Overall, I found the show much pricier than I was expecting, but I’m happy with my purchases and, most importantly, I had a great time (thank you Staci!) – mud and all!

Moroccan Wedding Blanket {Love it!}

I’ve been lusting over these Moroccan Wedding Blankets for a little while now. I especially love the ones decorated with sequins. I envision these lovelies more as a luxurious throw vs. a blanket, and most definitely not as a bath mat as they’ve done here. What do you think?

Gorgeous right? In all my on line searching, I have yet to pinpoint a Canadian retailer, and given the price point - it won’t be shipping to my home anytime soon. Have a wonderful weekend all!

{20.05.11} Evan’s Birthday!

We celebrated Evan’s second birthday on Friday. His birthday meal? Cheese filled ravioli with homemade tomato sauce followed by cake and presents.

Evan's 2nd Birthday

We hosted his birthday party on Saturday. A few weeks ago I shared my inspiration for his party, so you already know it was going to be all about race cars. He was tired by the time we had cake, needless to say we didn’t get too many smiling photos here.

Evan's Birthday Party

The race car invitations gave our 5 little guests a hint of what was to come. We outfitted our dining room for the party. The race car invitations, happy birthday banner and other decorations from Gwynn Wasson Designs via etsy, was the perfect starting point for our race car theme. The 36’ red balloons and fancy straws from Brilliant Bash were also good finds. I made the ‘2’ sugar cookies, along with the chocolate covered rice crispy pops and chocolate covered marshmallows but, the hit of the party was the chocolate cake and the vanilla with buttercream frosting cupcakes! I ordered the cake from Monastery Bakery and the cupcakes from Call Me Cupcake – both were absolutely heavenly.

Happy second birthday Evan, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Chocolate Covered Rice Crispy Pops

Tomorrow is Evan’s 2nd birthday. We’re celebrating with family tomorrow night and hosting his birthday party on Saturday. In preparation, today, we tackled grocery shopping, dropped off 2 of the 36’ red balloons at the party store - so they can be added to our balloon order - and we baked. Birthday Cake, Sugar Cookies and Chocolate Covered Rice Crispy Pops, don’t they look delish?

Have a great long weekend friends! I’ll show you pictures from our race car birthday party next week! Happy Weekend!

The Home Depot {Outdoor Living}

Have you looked at the Spring/Summer 2011 DreamBook from The Home Depot? I recently did, and WOW!

The Home Depot is really doing their part to help inspire people with renovations indoors and out. The entire book was impressive but I’m especially impressed with their outdoor living showcase (beginning on page 47). With inspirational photos these and the one’s on their newly updated online Design Centre, The Home Depot is really positioning themselves as a go-to store for more than just renovations. Hmm, perhaps I’ll start joining B for his trips to The Home Depot more often.

Back to the outdoor living showcase. This summer season The Home Depot has introduced – Urban, Cottage and Zen inspired themes to help inspire people to think style when setting up their outdoor living area. Here’s a look at each theme…

Urban: To achieve an eclectic, yet homey look, go exotic with Persian – style outdoor rugs, lanterns and cushions; or more classically chic with wrought iron candle lamps, striped rugs and a black and white theme.

Cottage: If you favour country flair, think airy wicker chairs on a wooden deck. For a casual look, consider Muskoka or butterfly chairs and simple wooden or woven side tables. Driftwood accents, lanterns and hurricane lamps add a beachy touch. Add metal cafe tables with matching chairs or bistro-inspired seats and a trellis to complete this look, rich in Old World charm.

Zen: The minimalists among us might design their ideal outdoor lounge with a pergola and dark rattan sectional or low, modern lounge chairs with cream cushions. Add Japanese-inspired planters, lush with grasses or sculptural twigs and discrete desk lights which cast a serene glow. To create a calm zone, even in the smallest space, set up a sleek metal lounge chair or string a hammock in a secluded corner.

A Race Car Birthday Party

I can’t believe a week today my little man Evan will be turning 2. WOW! It seems like only yesterday that he was born and he still seems little to me, but little he is not. He’s talking, running and doing everything his big brother Liam does… there’s never a dull moment around our house these days.

For the last few months, Evan has shunned trains and it’s been all about race cars. Needless to say, this birthday will be taking on a race car theme. We are in full swing party planning mode around here and if you’ve been with me since Evan’s 1st Birthday, you’ll know there’s much I like to do.

I began looking inspiration while we were on vacation, and since, everything I’ve ordered has arrived… thank goodness. Here’s a look at inspiration I’ve found for our 1st ever Race Car Birthday Party, I’m so excited.

Party Invitation (& more) from Gwynn Wasson Designs via etsy, giant balloons & straws from Brilliant Bash other images from etsy and Pinterest.

I’ll be busy this weekend picking up party supplies and making a few things for the party. What do you have planned for the weekend? Whatever you have on the go, enjoy & happy weekend!

Photos as Artwork

I love vacations not only for the rest and relaxation, but for the opportunity it gives for special moments. We captured about 400 of those special moments with our fancy-smancy camera (I blogged about it here) however, there’s a small handful that we’re considering enlarging and framing for artwork around the house. Here’s the photo’s we’re considering…

I’m thinking about this photo for either the living room or basement TV area…Dolphin's in Naples

… for the playroom…playroom picture

… for their shared bathroom…DSCF7326

Others for different frames around the house…

I tried for my own version of a Christian Chaize beach print (I blogged about it here) but it didn’t turn out as good as I had hoped for… ah well!

Costco offers the ability to enlarge photo’s but we’ve also heard a lot about PosterJack. They offer the ability to enlarge photos to poster size and the ability to print your photos on canvas, which we’re considering for the boys - dolphin photo. Have your turned your personal photo’s into artwork around the house? Can you recommend a photo studio that does a great job?
